Turning Point supports Paxton in Texas Senate primary as Trump considers endorsement

Turning Point Action, the political entity linked to the late Charlie Kirk’s Turning Point USA, has officially endorsed Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in his campaign to challenge long-serving Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas). This race will be crucial in determining whether Republicans can maintain their Senate majority.

Paxton’s endorsement marks the fourth Senate candidate endorsement by Turning Point this election cycle, highlighting the race’s national importance. Democrats are eyeing the Texas Senate seat, seeing a potential opportunity to flip it, which could significantly impact Republican prospects in the Senate.

In response to the endorsement, Paxton expressed his gratitude, stating he feels honored to have the support of Turning Point Action, an organization he believes fights to uphold conservative values and future freedoms. He noted, “The movement and organization Charlie Kirk established has inspired countless individuals worldwide, and the ongoing efforts of Turning Point Action are vital for our nation’s future.” He added that he is proud to align with Turning Point Action in their shared mission to protect the future for younger generations.

Paxton is in a heated primary battle with Cornyn and Representative Wesley Hunt (R-Texas). The primary winner will face off against either Democratic Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett or notable state Representative James Talarico.

As a staunch conservative and long-time supporter of former President Donald Trump, Paxton has held the position of Texas Attorney General since 2015. Since announcing his Senate run in April, he has branded himself as an “America First Warrior” and positioned his campaign as a fight against establishment Republicans, often referred to as “RINOs.”

Trump has not yet publicly endorsed anyone in this race, but both candidates are keen to align themselves with him, especially as his influence grows. Paxton has pledged to uphold Trump’s legislative priorities if he wins.

Meanwhile, Cornyn, who has held his Senate seat since 2002, underscores his dedication to conservative integrity, promoting his collaboration with Trump and asserting that he would back the former president 99% of the time.

Turning Point’s backing of Paxton contrasts with the support offered to Cornyn by the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which typically endorses party incumbents.

Although Trump has been quiet about endorsements so far, he recently hinted that he may reveal his support for a candidate in this Texas Senate race soon, hinting at the weight his endorsement could carry.

“I like all of them,” Trump said, referring to the candidates. “But you’ll soon find out. They say whoever I support wins, and that seems to be true.”
