Criticism of UK Officials Following Charlie Kirk’s Death
The British government officials who expressed outrage over Charlie Kirk’s assassination would likely have arrested him if he were a citizen of the UK, according to some critics.
Politicians from across Europe swiftly conveyed heartfelt condolences to Kirk’s family, referencing Turning Point UK (TPUK), a group established in London in 2019 as part of his US organization.
On Wednesday evening, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer tweeted, “My thoughts this evening are with Charlie Kirk’s loved ones.” This comes amid global headlines about the UK government’s crackdown on Britons for online behavior, with arrests reportedly occurring at a rate of 30 per day for “offensive” social media posts.
A TPUK spokesperson commented to Breitbart News, stating that Starmer’s expressions of sympathy seem disingenuous. They remarked on the increasingly censored environment in the UK, pointing out the history of David Lammy, the deputy Labour leader, who previously criticized President Trump. They recalled how Lammy had labeled Kirk’s visit in 2019—during which TPUK was launched alongside Nigel Farage—as “sinister.”
Lammy, who remains active on social media, had previously responded to news about the TPUK’s emergence by stating that “sinful forces hold our country.” He has also expressed concerns about the ideological shift of the Conservative Party towards a more extreme stance.
TPUK’s previous comments highlighted the indifference from leftist leaders in the face of violence perpetrated by radical activists against their group. They planned a vigil in central London to honor Charlie Kirk on Friday evening.
