Bill Belichick’s Documentary Cancelled Amidst Controversy
If you’re eager to see behind-the-scenes footage from Bill Belichick’s turbulent first season coaching in Chapel Hill, you’re in for some disappointment.
WRAL News in North Carolina was set to release a documentary that Hulu has now canceled. Initially, this documentary would have given the University of North Carolina $250,000, according to reports.
Belichick’s well-known “do your job” philosophy was a hallmark of his New England tenure, but during his short stint with the Tar Heels, it appeared that the focus shifted away from the game itself.
His relationship with 24-year-old Jordon Hudson added extra drama, and there were ongoing discussions about behind-the-scenes revelations surrounding his coaching methods.
There were even whispers that the Tar Heels might appear in an offseason edition of HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” but those plans never came to pass.
At 73, Belichick had informed his team that the documentary was slated to be part of a project by Hulu and Everwonder, expected this fall. There was an Instagram post from August announcing this, but alas, it seems that effort has also fallen through.
According to reports, the agreement between Everwonder Studios and the university hinged on Belichick’s involvement. If he chose not to participate or rescinded permissions, the partnership could be terminated.
As for filming, reports noted that it was supposed to occur from August 11 to October 31.
A university spokesperson mentioned, “Before the 2025 NCAA football season began, UNC and EverWonder Studios LLC agreed to a deal allowing for a documentary about the UNC football program, intended to be a multi-episode series on Hulu.” However, they stated that production is currently paused while both parties explore future options.
At this point, it appears that the only accessible footage might come from WRAL News, which recently shared an article, albeit with limited details about the documentary.
Meanwhile, North Carolina State’s record stands at 2-4 following a gut-wrenching defeat to California last Friday, where a potential game-winning touchdown was fumbled near the 1-yard line. This Saturday, the team will host No. 16 Virginia.
