Twins’ Plans Before Trade Deadline
The Minnesota Twins have a clear path as they approach next week’s trade deadline.
On Tuesday, general manager Jeremy Zoll emphasized this direction to reporters. The Twins currently find themselves just half a game behind the Guardians, vying for the final American League wild-card spot.
Zoll outlined the team’s focus for the upcoming week.
“We’re going to use this next week to find ways to improve the club and continue to execute on that goal,” Zoll explained, clearly intent on making that a reality. He pointed out that, primarily, they’ll concentrate on enhancing the bullpen.
“We’re going to concentrate on improving our bullpen,” he reiterated. “We’re open to different creative avenues, since this year, the market seems like it will take longer to settle. Many teams spent notable time last week finalizing their strategies.”
In their latest game, the Twins rallied to defeat the Royals 3-2, bringing their record to 54-54 as the deadline looms just six days away.
Zoll reminded everyone that the team’s primary goal since spring training has been “to play meaningful games in September.”
“I’m really excited about how the team played in this last game,” he expressed. “It’s encouraging, and now we’ll dedicate this week to finding ways to improve and continue our momentum.”
This commitment to becoming buyers likely means that certain players, like pitcher Joe Ryan, may not be on the trading block. While catcher Ryan Jeffers is a prospective free agent, it seems Zoll is not keen on trading him.
“I don’t think it’s particularly productive to dwell on speculation,” he mentioned. “Regarding Ryan, he’s having a fantastic year. We’re thrilled with his progress and want to keep the team intact for future success.”
The Twins will continue their three-game series with the Royals on Wednesday.
