Rogers Brothers’ Trades Shake Up MLB Landscape
The landscape of the Rogers family has shifted quite a bit recently. Tyler and Taylor Rogers, twin brothers and MLB relievers, played for the San Francisco Giants during 2023 and 2024. However, a significant change occurred this season when the Giants chose to separate the siblings.
Back in January, the Giants traded Taylor to the Cincinnati Reds, but on a recent Wednesday, they sent both brothers in different directions—resulting in an intriguing twist for fans. The Reds traded Taylor to the Pittsburgh Pirates, acquiring a third baseman, Kebrian Hayes, in return. Not long after, Tyler was traded to the New York Mets.
Tyler has had an impressive season, appearing in 53 games, the most in the majors this year, with a remarkable 1.80 ERA. Last year, he also led the MLB with 77 appearances, maintaining strong performances in the National League in both 2020 and 2021. His career ERA stands at 2.79, something the Mets will certainly appreciate as they look to strengthen their bullpen, especially as they’ve also secured Gregory Soto from the Orioles.
As for Taylor, he has recorded a 2.45 ERA this season and had a 2.40 ERA with the Giants in 2024. Over his ten seasons, he has averaged a 3.28 ERA. This latest trade marks Taylor’s sixth MLB organization, while Tyler will experience a different side of the game after being with the Giants for seven years. Interestingly, the only significant difference between the two in terms of pitching style is that Tyler throws right-handed, whereas Taylor pitches left-handed.
The Rogers twins made history as the tenth set of twins in MLB history, and when Taylor joined San Francisco, they became the first twins to be teammates since Jose and Oxie Canseco in 1990. It’s certainly a fascinating chapter for the Rogers brothers as they navigate their new paths in the league.
