Crowds Clash Outside Carmelo Anthony Murder Trial

On June 9, 2026, tensions escalated outside the Collin County Courthouse following a guilty verdict in the murder trial of Carmelo Anthony. Anthony was found guilty of fatally stabbing 17-year-old Austin Metcalfe.

Earlier this week, outside the courthouse, a man involved in a viral confrontation was apprehended. This incident marked one of several arrests during a charged atmosphere surrounding the trial. The Collin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that two individuals were taken into custody shortly after Anthony’s sentencing.

The individual linked to the disturbing incident was identified as Jerome Winston Parker, who was arrested for a pre-existing warrant related to unlawful possession of a weapon. This arrest stemmed from an event occurring three days prior, on June 6, in the courthouse parking lot.

Parker was arrested on Tuesday and is being held on a $1,000 bail. Just before this, clashes erupted outside the courthouse where he was seen engaged in a confrontation with supporters of Austin Metcalfe.

In another arrest, witnesses noted a man wearing a pink tie and suspenders being taken into custody on suspicions of assault. This man later turned out to be Shodon Daniels, a Republican Congressional candidate in Texas’ 30th District. He had posted a video on social media showcasing his outfit just before the skirmish. According to his campaign website, Daniels is also a military veteran and an attorney.

Daniels faced charges for public intoxication following his arrest and remains in custody with a $500 bail. He has used social media to express disapproval of Anthony’s actions, emphasizing the race-related implications of the murder trial.

This recent arrest unfolded during a heated rally after the jury convicted Anthony for the fatal stabbing of Metcalfe during a high school track meet in 2025. Video footage captured the moments of chaos as supporters reacted to the sentencing, which was set at 35 years for Anthony.

During the trial, the prosecution detailed how Anthony confronted Metcalfe and ultimately attacked him, while the defense argued that the stabbing was an act of self-defense. Despite these arguments, a Texas jury concluded that Anthony was indeed guilty.
