Now that Luigi Mangione has been arrested for the murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, questions remain as to why the president committed such a heinous act.
And in a recent interview with Jesse Watters, Mangione's former roommate RJ Martin did his best to provide some answers.
“Was this guy doing drugs?” Watters asked.
“Absolutely nothing that I knew about,” Martin replied. “He was a great community member who followed our values and ethics and tried to leave us better than you expected. He was always contributing and caring for others. .”
“Even after we moved, he came here to spend time with us, spearheading a book club and contributing to the community. He and I worked out, went to yoga classes, and played volleyball. We became even closer friends,” Martin continued.
A former roommate also said Mangione was “doing his best to take care of himself” but had “severe back pain.”
Mr. Watters then asked Mr. Martin about Mr. Mangione's sex life.
“He was as athletic as he could be,” Martin said. “I know there were times when he was bedridden for days, even weeks, so he did everything he could when he could. “I couldn't comment on his sex life,” she said, adding: “I couldn't comment on his sex life.”
It turns out that Mangione also had a Goodreads account, where he reviewed Ted Kaczynski's Manifesto. A former roommate claims Mangione suggested that he read it for a book club he started.
“We had normal discussions and discussions centered around it, but nothing really stood out at the time. No anger, no special affinity for it. Just some thoughts. I'm just making the argument that makes me want to,” Martin said.
“That's cited a lot in the manifesto we got. Does it feel strange because the man you lived with for six months has been arrested on suspicion of murder?” Watters asked.
“He was a great friend and I considered him my best friend, but the only person who would assassinate someone was someone I lived with, someone I cooked meals with. And I find it strange because it's totally incompatible with the people I lived with and the people I lived with.'' Part of the book club and other activities,'' Martin replied, “Totally.'' It's like two different people,” he added.
Dave Rubin of the Rubin Report thinks there may be some meaning to Martin's claim that he is “a completely different person” than he knows.
“We have a mental health problem in this country, partly because of prescription drugs, but also because so many people have been fooled by the media for so long. “I've been taught the wrong things,” Rubin says.
“A lot of it has to do with what I think is going on in this country right now,” he added.
