Two dead and seven wounded in shooting at Florida shopping mall | Florida

Two people were killed and seven others were injured in a shooting at a popular shopping mall in Florida.

According to Miami-Dade police, a fight broke out at a martini bar at CityPlace Doral early Saturday morning. Miami-Dade Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said the altercation resulted in a gunman fatally shooting a security guard who intervened, and a subsequent gunfight with police that killed him as well.

Zabaleta said six bystanders, including five men and one woman, were injured in the shootout, and a police officer was shot in the leg.

“Officers working at the business at the time responded immediately and there was an exchange of gunfire,” Zabaleta said at a news conference.

“Unfortunately, a security guard lost his life in the line of duty. Of course, our condolences go out to his family.”

The injured police officer applied a tourniquet himself according to regulations. CBS News, He was then discharged from the hospital. Local residents said they were shocked by the violent events.

The outlet also noted that the shooting occurred a year after Doral police conducted active shooter training and mass casualty training to prepare officers for these types of situations.
