Second Chance for Two Rescued Dogs

It’s a remarkable turnaround for these two pups.

Marzipan and Nougat, who were allegedly dragged by a Queens man in Long Island City earlier this year, have made an impressive recovery and are now ready for adoption.

Marzipan, fondly referred to as “Marley,” and Nougat, also known as “Miss Noogie,” were rescued back in January. After receiving specialized treatment from the ASPCA, they’re now looking for their forever homes.

On January 4, alarming footage emerged showing two dogs leashed in the back of a red Volkswagen Passat, struggling to keep up as the car sped toward a junction near 11th Avenue and 43rd Street.

Witnesses, shocked by the scene, reported it to the NYPD, leading to the arrest of 68-year-old Dan Bujo, the driver.

Marley, who suffered a burst eardrum during the ordeal, arrived at the ASPCA in a state of fear and confusion. An ASPCA spokesperson explained that Marley required specialized behavioral rehabilitation to learn to trust again.

At first, the German shepherd was timid, often hiding in the back of his kennel. However, with the encouragement of an assistance dog and targeted training, he gradually began to come out of his shell.

Nowadays, despite still being a bit shy, Marley has started to show off his playful personality. He enjoys learning tricks, chasing balls, and frolicking outside.

Miss Noogie, a large mixed-breed dog, had injuries on her paws and was dealing with several health issues upon her rescue. Since then, she has flourished in her foster home and is now looking for an owner who appreciates her love of snacks and cozy naps.

Both dogs received care at the ASPCA’s Recovery and Rehabilitation Center in Pawling, which opened in late 2025. The facility aims to enhance treatment for dogs rescued by the NYPD.

As for Bujo, he faces charges including excessive driving and animal cruelty related to the incident. He has pleaded not guilty and could potentially face a year in prison if convicted.
