Shooting at Seattle Center Results in Two Deaths and Multiple Injuries
Authorities reported that a shooting at Seattle Center on Sunday resulted in two fatalities and several injuries. Police and emergency responders arrived shortly after 6 p.m. during the Bite of Seattle food festival.
Seattle police advised the public to “avoid the area.” The Seattle Fire Department confirmed that despite life-saving efforts, two individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.
In addition to the two deceased, three others—including a 2-year-old—were hospitalized in stable condition. Another victim was reported in critical condition, while a fifth, suffering minor injuries, declined transport to the hospital.
As of now, police have not confirmed if a suspect has been arrested. Efforts for further information are ongoing.
Residents nearby had alarming experiences. Kayla Callis, 22, was sitting outside when she witnessed panic erupt inside the Seattle Center Armory with people screaming and rushing for cover. “Everyone was running and throwing things, just like everyone else,” she recounted.
Todd Behrens, 59, described hearing multiple gunshots and noted the chaotic scene as people scrambled to escape. He also mentioned seeing a woman on the ground and another on a stretcher as he made his way to safety.
After the incident, Harborview Medical Center was put on lockdown due to heightened police presence in the vicinity. In addition, the Seattle Center Monorail service was halted for the remainder of the day.
