Two killed in Russian air strike on Ukraine

Russia fired missiles across Ukraine early Monday in its latest major airstrike, killing at least two civilians and hitting residential and commercial buildings, Ukrainian officials said.

In the south-central city of Kryvi Rih, a shopping center and more than 20 civilian buildings were damaged, according to a report by Governor Serhii Lysak.

A 62-year-old man died outside the city.

“A mad enemy has attacked civilians again,” Lysak wrote on the messaging app Telegram. “They aimed missiles at people.”

The attack took place during a cold wave that hit Ukraine.

Mayor Oleksandr Vikrul reported that 15,000 residents were without power and local trams and trolleybuses were not operating.

In the eastern city of Kharkiv, at least four missile attacks damaged industrial sites and educational facilities, Governor Oleh Sinievov said.

Four people were injured in the southeastern city of Zaporizhia, and Governor Yuri Marashko reported five explosions and damaged residential areas.

All of Ukraine was placed under air raid warning for more than three hours on Monday.

In recent weeks, Russia has resumed a regular air campaign against populated areas in Ukraine, far behind the invasion line, which it has been carrying out for almost two years.
