Two people were killed and one seriously injured when a tire on a Delta Airlines plane exploded while being changed at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Tuesday.
The fatalities were identified as a Delta Air Lines employee and a contractor. The incident occurred in a maintenance area of the airport shortly after 5 a.m. and was reported by multiple media outlets. Outlet Report.
“The Delta family is heartbroken to learn that two team members were killed and another was injured in an incident that occurred this morning at our Atlanta Technical Operations Maintenance Facility (TOC 3),” the airline said in confirming the accident.
“We have offered our full support to their families and colleagues during this extremely difficult time.”

Delta Air Lines thanked emergency responders for their “swift action” and said it was working with local authorities to investigate the cause of the explosion.
Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens released a statement acknowledging the tragedy and offering his condolences to those involved. Daily Mail Reports.
“Our deepest condolences go to the family and loved ones of the Delta employee who passed away,” he said.
“Our hearts also go out to those who were injured and we hope they make a speedy and full recovery. Teams from AFRD, APD and HJAIA are on scene and working hard to resolve the situation.”
The plane was en route from Las Vegas to Atlanta on Sunday night. The cause of the explosion was not immediately clear.
