Two people found dead in dorms in possible homicide at Colorado Springs university

Two people were found with fatal gunshot wounds inside a University of Colorado dormitory after gunshots were heard early in the morning and students were told to duck down and turn off lights.

The victims were found around 6:05 a.m. each with “at least one gunshot wound.” According to the Colorado Springs Police Department. It is unclear whether they were students.

The gunshots forced the University of Colorado Colorado Springs to shut down hours before most students woke up, and students were told to be as quiet as possible and keep their doors locked.

“Lockdown! Lock interior doors. Turn off lights. Keep out of sight. Do not open doors. Remain silent. Evasion/defense,” said an alert sent just before 6 a.m. It was written as follows.

Immediately after discovering the deceased, police called the Homicide Unit to assist the scene.

Police did not say whether they believed the gunman was dead, but insisted there was no threat to the surrounding area.

The cause of their deaths has not been officially announced as the final determination will be made by the coroner.

Colorado Springs Police are not releasing additional information at this time due to the investigation.

Around 8 a.m., the shelter-in-place order was lifted and everyone in Alpine Village was admitted.

Schools will be closed for the day, but the shelter-in-place order was lifted as of 9:35 a.m., police said.

Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade called the deaths “a tragic loss of two lives.” on X.

“We grieve together and pray for peace and comfort for the family and friends of the deceased during this dark time,” he wrote. “Let’s feel safe with each other and feel the strength of the support system around us.”
