Two People Killed in Alabama After Shooting Incident After Football Game

Mass Shooting in Downtown Montgomery

On Saturday night, a tragic incident unfolded in downtown Montgomery, Alabama, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and leaving 14 others injured from gunshot wounds.

The shooting took place around 11:30 PM, specifically near the intersection of Bib and Commerce Streets, a popular area for tourists. Reports indicate that the violence erupted shortly after a football game between Tuskegee University and Morehouse College concluded.

Montgomery Police Chief James Gravoys labeled the event as a “mass shooting.” Tina McGriff, a representative from the Montgomery Police Department, confirmed that among the deceased was an adult woman. Additionally, several minors were injured, with at least one sustaining critical wounds.

“Overall, three victims are in critical condition, while nine others have sustained serious injuries,” McGriff noted.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that gunfire erupted between two rival factions amidst a crowded setting, disturbing the overall atmosphere. “It’s concerning that those involved in the shooting showed no regard for the bystanders around them,” one witness commented, reflecting the shock of the situation.

As of now, law enforcement has yet to reveal the identities of those involved in the shooting, and no arrests have been made. McGriff mentioned that detectives are actively pursuing leads, including witness statements and surveillance footage. “We encourage anyone with information to come forward. Even the smallest detail could assist in identifying those responsible,” she emphasized.

State and federal law enforcement agencies are lending their support to the Montgomery Police Department as they continue the investigation. This incident occurred on a particularly busy night, coinciding with the launch of various attractions in the downtown area, including a Ferris wheel and games.
