Two people taken into custody after a U.S. Park Police officer was shot in Washington, DC

Two individuals have been taken into custody following the shooting of a U.S. Park Police officer in southeast Washington, D.C., on Monday night, as announced by the Metropolitan Police Department.

Darren Foster, 21, and Ashail Foster, 22, both from Southeast D.C., were apprehended shortly after the incident, with the latter being arrested on Tuesday. They face charges related to assaulting a federal officer with a firearm.

The shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. while officers were looking into an incident involving an unmarked Tesla.

According to reports, two armed men approached the officer’s vehicle and opened fire, striking him in the upper body. Fortunately, the officer managed to escape in his vehicle and was later airlifted to a local hospital for medical attention.

U.S. Park Police confirm that though the injuries were serious, they were not life-threatening, and the officer has since been discharged from the hospital.

Additionally, there’s information suggesting that the suspects knew the individual inside the Tesla was a police officer, although the motive for the attack remains unclear.

Authorities conducted a raid at a residence near the shooting scene the following day, utilizing guns and K-9 units during the operation.

This case is currently under investigation by detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s NIBIN Investigation Unit, which collaborates with U.S. Park Police detectives and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
