Two police officers, one of whom was a New York Police Department officer, were wounded when a gunman opened fire outside a New Jersey hotel early Thursday, law enforcement sources said.
NYPD detectives were dispatched to the Raritan Hotel on King George’s Post Road pursuing a man wanted in connection with an East Harlem shooting, where the suspect’s girlfriend showed up, officials said.
Officials said the girlfriend caused a disturbance and was handcuffed before the suspected shooter, who was inside the hotel, emerged.
Officials said a New York Police Department officer was shot in the leg and a local New Jersey officer was shot in the back.
Video from the scene shows NYPD patrol cars as well as NYPD Deputy Commissioner Kaz Daughtry arriving and leaving the scene in a plain SUV.
The New York Police Department would not comment on the early morning violence and referred The Post to New York City authorities.
The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office said the state Attorney General’s Office is handling the investigation.
Officials with that office did not immediately respond to a request for information.
