Two teenagers taken into custody for shooting a 15-year-old at the US Capitol

Two teenagers were arrested on Saturday following a shooting that injured a 15-year-old boy near Union Station in Washington, D.C. The suspects, a 17-year-old from Northeast D.C. and a 16-year-old from Southeast D.C., have been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon.

The incident took place along Massachusetts Avenue NE, close to North Capitol Street, which is a significant area given its proximity to the U.S. Capitol and Union Station, where federal law enforcement is a common sight.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), officers responded around 4:10 p.m. to reports of a shooting in the unit block of Massachusetts Avenue NE. The injured boy was discovered conscious and breathing, yet with gunshot wounds.

He was subsequently taken to a local hospital, where he is being treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

In response to the shooting, U.S. Capitol Police apprehended two suspects nearby. The MPD later confirmed that, following an investigation, both suspects were arrested.

Officials stated that a firearm was found in the vicinity of the shooting, emphasizing that the investigation is ongoing.
