Tragic Incident Claims Life of 2-Year-Old in Florida
A two-year-old boy was fatally shot after a relative discovered a handgun in a vehicle during a family vacation at an Airbnb in Florida. The incident occurred on Sunday as they arrived in Kissimmee.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reported that the tragedy unfolded around 4 p.m. when an older child found the unsecured gun belonging to the child’s mother while the family was still in the car outside the rental property.
Emergency responders rushed the toddler to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital in Orlando, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
According to authorities, the family had traveled from Louisville, Georgia, and they are currently clarifying the exact relationship between the two children involved in this heartbreaking event.
“When they arrived, the family’s 4-year-old accessed the vehicle and located an unholstered firearm, leaving the 2-year-old inside,” explained a spokesperson from OCSO.
The family was still outside the car, preparing to enter the house, when they heard gunshots originating from within the vehicle.
In a separate development, a family member also sought medical attention due to chest pains related to the stress of the incident.
While police have yet to interview the 4-year-old, they indicated that the family has been cooperative and is not restricted from leaving the area.
The Homicide Unit responded to the scene, and the coroner’s office, along with the Department of Children and Families, has been notified as the investigation progresses.
Authorities have suggested that charges may be considered, pending further discussions with the state attorney’s office.
This heartbreaking incident follows another tragedy last month where twin five-year-old girls from Georgia drowned in a pool at a nearby vacation rental in Kissimmee.
