Ty Burrell Moves from LA to Utah for Family
Modern Family star Ty Burrell has expressed no regrets about leaving Los Angeles to settle in Utah. He and his wife, Holly, made the move to Salt Lake City in 2020, believing it provided a better environment for their teenage daughters, Francis and Greta.
“It was just spectacular,” Burrell commented during an interview published on August 3rd. He described his experience since leaving LA as wonderful for raising children.
Although he has paused his acting career for the time being, Burrell is staying engaged in the industry through voice work. He’s been enjoying Utah’s outdoor lifestyle immensely.
Reflecting on the change, he noted that his own parents weren’t the outdoorsy type. “So when we moved here, it felt almost like cosplay, like we were pretending to be someone else,” he shared.
Burrell is not alone in his decision to leave the Hollywood scene. Many celebrities are opting for life outside of Los Angeles, especially those with kids. For instance, Legally Blonde actress Ali Larter moved her family to Idaho in 2020 for a stronger sense of community in Sun Valley.
Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco similarly left LA, relocating to a ranch in Thousand Oaks, which allows for a more outdoorsy lifestyle. She mentioned wanting something different from LA, finding that while she loves her career in acting, there is value in a more grounded existence.
Burrell, Larter, and Cuoco represent a growing trend of individuals departing LA, joining others like Mark Wahlberg, Dean Cain, Sylvester Stallone, and Sheryl Crow. The movement signifies a shift, perhaps toward seeking a different quality of life.
