Ty Simpson is getting ready for his NFL debut this Saturday as the Los Angeles Rams head to Kansas City to face the Chiefs.
With all eyes on him, Simpson shared some valuable advice he received from Matthew Stafford during a press conference on Thursday.
“Just be yourself,” Simpson quoted Stafford, adding, “Don’t try to be someone else, just do it your way.”
Simpson further explained that Stafford emphasized how easy it is to get lost in trying to imitate others, and that it’s really about discovering who you are and finding a way to work well with that.
The next few weeks are going to be crucial for Simpson. Since Stafford won’t be taking any snaps in the preseason, Simpson will have the chance to learn and adapt.
Head coach Sean McVay is looking forward to seeing what the rookie can do, especially after the team chose him 13th overall in the NFL Draft this year. It’s clear the Rams envision him as a future leader, learning the ropes under Stafford’s guidance.
Stafford has taken an interest in how Simpson is feeling about stepping onto the field for his first game.
“I’m really excited. This is such a great opportunity,” Simpson said, noting the best piece of advice he got was to simply “let it rip.” He added, “There’s nothing you haven’t faced before. Just go out there, understand the rules, keep an eye on the play clock, and just play.”
Along with Stafford, Simpson mentioned the support from veteran quarterback Stetson Bennett and Coach McVay as instrumental in his development.
“This is a moment for growth, not just for me but for the whole team as we come together,” Simpson concluded.
