Tyler Glasnow Set to Rejoin Dodgers’ Rotation

Tyler Glasnow is on track to rejoin the Dodgers’ rotation after completing one more start in the minor leagues, according to manager Dave Roberts. This update came on Saturday.

Glasnow, who hasn’t pitched in the major leagues since May 6, took the mound for a game at the Dodgers’ Triple-A affiliate, Oklahoma City, on Friday night, where he successfully retired 11 out of 13 batters faced.

This marked Glasnow’s third start in a rehabilitation assignment.

“Yesterday was a good game,” Roberts stated. “Our plan is for him to make one more start, going about five innings and around 75 pitches, then he’ll rejoin the team.”

In his last outing, Glasnow threw 67 pitches over 3 2/3 innings.

Before going on the disabled list, he had started seven games, achieving a 3-0 record and a 2.72 ERA.

Standing at 6-foot-8, the right-hander made a deliberate effort to gain weight during the offseason, hoping it would help him maintain his health. Unfortunately, during his first season with the Dodgers in 2024, his time was cut short due to elbow strain. Additionally, he was sidelined for two and a half months last year because of shoulder tightness.

On another note, the Dodgers are slowly but surely solidifying their rotation. They recently acquired two-time Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal just before the trade deadline. Blake Snell rejoined the active roster from the disabled list on Tuesday, and Shohei Ohtani had his first bullpen session in over three weeks on Friday.

This could lead to some tough choices for Roberts and the front office as they head into the playoffs. The Dodgers are likely to adopt a four-man rotation in October. And if Ohtani is able to pitch an inning or two as an opener, it’s possible Glasnow might be asked to transition to a bullpen role.

Glasnow was pivotal for the Dodgers during last year’s postseason, starting in three playoff games and also pitching in relief in Games 6 and 7.
