The man accused of assassinating Charlie Kirk, Tyler Robinson, reportedly bragged about his long-range shooting skills, as detailed in a recent interview with a former coworker.
Robinson, just 22, hardly spoke much during his time as a first-year electrician in 2023 at an apartment project in St. George, Utah.
According to a 25-year-old electrician who worked with him, Robinson was typically quiet—unless the topic of firearms came up.
“Right after Black Friday, I was showing my boss a new pistol I had bought,” the colleague, who wished to remain anonymous, recalled. “Tyler and another guy joined us in the truck, and we all started sharing what guns we had and discussing our longest shots.”
“That was really the only time I noticed Robinson engaging with us. He seemed excited about guns—at least, as excited as he could be. But overall, he was pretty blank, really quiet,” the coworker added.
At that time, Robinson was employed by High Output Electric, a company in Washington County. They had been contracted to work on the new apartments alongside Wilde Electric for about eight months, according to the source who confirmed his employment.
Robinson was later arrested for fatally shooting Kirk from the top of the Lourse Center building, approximately 200 yards away, while Kirk was addressing a crowd at Utah Valley University.
The owner of High Output Electric, Shane Bennett, stated that Robinson worked with them until late 2023 but couldn’t remember the circumstances of his departure. Attempts to contact Wilde Electric’s owner for comments went unanswered.
The news of Robinson’s arrest brought back memories for his coworkers, especially after it was revealed that a trade school student had allegedly taken the shot at Kirk.
“When I heard about it yesterday, I was stunned. I thought, ‘That can’t be Tyler,’ and reached out to an old colleague at Wilde Electric. I thought he might have been at another job site,” the electrician said.
“I mentioned that I believed Tyler was the shooter, but my friend didn’t believe me,” he continued, adding that his subsequent call to Robinson went straight to voicemail.
“He was the last person I would’ve expected to do something like this. There were countless others before him who came to mind,” he reflected.
Governor Spencer Cox of Utah described the incident as a “political assassination” and suggested Robinson was “deeply rooted in leftist ideology,” although his coworker mentioned that Robinson often distanced himself from political discussions.
“I recall once we were in a unit talking politics, and Tyler just slipped into the laundry room, sat in a bucket, and put on headphones. Most of us had conservative views,” he remembered.
Interestingly, the electrician noted one striking characteristic of Robinson: his clenched fist.
“Tyler was always walking around with a clenched fist, like he was ready for something. I used to joke with him about it. He would just say, ‘That’s what I do,’” he recounted, adding that even security footage showed Robinson with a tightly clenched fist.
