Recently released police bodycam footage captures Tyler Robinson following a car accident in Utah in 2022. In an unsettling twist, he is the suspect in the shooting death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk three years later.
The video, obtained by Scripps News, shows 19-year-old Robinson calmly conversing with law enforcement after colliding his Silver Audi with a Ford Sedan that had turned left at an intersection in St. George, Utah.
“When I came, he turned around and I turned over to his side,” Robinson stated to police, his demeanor unruffled as he spoke during a nearly eight-minute exchange.
Dressed in a gray shirt and a hat, Robinson was driving with his siblings in the passenger seat. Thankfully, no one sustained injuries from the accident, and both drivers left the scene unharmed.
The footage highlighted Robinson’s damaged luxury car, which was leaking oil and had a broken front hood.
“When I left the house, I put some oil in it and just concluded it,” he humorously told the officer.
The video also features Robinson’s mother arriving at the crash scene, although there were no accident quotes reported for either driver.
Robinson, now 22, is accused of fatally stabbing the 31-year-old Turning Point USA founder in the neck while he was at an event at Utah Valley University on September 10.
This public murder has ignited a significant manhunt, leading the FBI to release blurry images of a college-aged man in dark clothing, sunglasses, and a hat. Authorities reportedly apprehended Robinson 33 hours later after he was turned in by his own father.
Evidence from a text exchange in Robinson’s indictment has surfaced, indicating he confided to his trans partner about plans for the murder, which he claimed to have been contemplating for over a week.
Robinson faces charges of aggravated murder and could potentially receive the death penalty under Utah’s laws, a situation that has gained public attention including support from prominent figures like President Trump. In fact, Utah is one of the few states that still permits firing squads as a method of execution.
