Philadelphia Mets Pitcher Out for the Season

The Mets have experienced a setback as Tylor Megill has been sidelined for the remainder of the season, a development they were hoping to avoid.

During a recent practice, Megill felt tension in his arm while attempting a secondary pitch on Sunday and, as a result, has been prohibited from throwing.

This news comes nearly three months after his initial injury, prompting a new MRI in New York to assess the situation.

Initially, he had been recovering from an elbow sprain that he sustained at the beginning of June. In addition to discomfort with his off-speed pitches, he has also been found to have inflammation in his elbow during subsequent evaluations.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza was hesitant to label Megill out for the season or speculate about potential surgery, although he acknowledged that this recurrence is worrisome. “The fact that he’s getting another MRI and where are we? It feels like we’re using up our time,” he commented before the team’s series at Citizens Bank Park.

Megill’s rehabilitation journey has included stints with both Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Syracuse, but the results have been inconsistent.

With six starters already in the rotation, the Mets, along with Kodai Senga, had hoped to find a solution—even if reclaiming Megill wasn’t their first choice for deepening the lineup. As they await the MRI results, it’s likely to be a long wait, especially considering he has a 3.95 ERA over his 14 starts this season.
