Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was cited for careless driving and a seat belt violation during a traffic stop before Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Miami-Dade police announced the charges on Tuesday, a day after body camera footage captured the tense moments after the NFL player was pulled over, removed from his car, pinned to the ground and handcuffed.

Hill was found to have violated Florida Statute 316.1925, which defines careless driving as: “Any person who operates a vehicle upon any road or highway in this state shall operate the vehicle carefully and with due care and caution, having regard to width, grade, curves, turns, traffic, and all attendant circumstances, so as not to endanger the life, limb, or property of any person. Any failure to do so constitutes careless driving and is a violation of this section.”
Police said Hill was not wearing a seat belt and was driving in a 40 mph speed zone, “estimated to be going 60 mph by visual inspection.”

Hill was briefly detained during a traffic stop after a physical altercation with officers, during which officers Callie Campbell and Jonnu Smith were also charged, and during which they pulled over to see if Hill was OK, according to body camera footage.
Miami Police Chief Manuel Morales released a statement about the incident:

“The body camera footage of the Miami-Dade Police Department's interaction with Mr. Hill is painful to watch, but it serves as a reminder that we must always strive to do better,” Morales said. “While the Miami Police Department was not involved, I pray that we can use this incident to move forward toward stronger collaboration between professional athletes, our communities, and the brave men and women sworn to protect us all. Together, we all win.”
