Recent reports have suggested that Tyreek Hill might be making a return to the Kansas City Chiefs, with one report even citing his agent’s expectation for Hill to sign with a team shortly. This came just before his divorce trial got underway on Tuesday.
During the trial, Hill’s estranged wife, Lakeeta Vaccaro, detailed instances of domestic abuse in her testimony. She mentioned eight specific incidents in her lawsuit.
While the NFL doesn’t concern itself directly with the divorce, the abuse allegations are significant and could complicate or postpone Hill’s potential return to the game, given the league’s Personal Conduct Policy.
Hill remains a free agent, but the NFL is currently reviewing the domestic violence claims put forth by Vaccaro. A league source has confirmed that there is no set timeline for concluding this review.
The testimony presented in court on Tuesday will likely play a crucial role in determining Hill’s eligibility to play once he’s fit again.
Vaccaro, who is suing Hill for both punitive and compensatory damages, shared an incident from July 2024 during their visit to the ESPN campus in Orlando. She recalled Hill getting upset over her lack of professional hair and makeup for potential interviews. Later, in their hotel, he reportedly became so angry that he attempted to punch her in the stomach, which she managed to block with her hands, though the blow still hit her hands. At that time, Vaccaro was pregnant, and she noted that Hill had expressed his desire against having the baby.
Vaccaro, sister to former NFL player Kenny Vaccaro, claimed that their 18-month marriage was marked by cycles of relative calm followed by intense conflict. “There were so many times when it was beautiful,” she said, reflecting on their relationship, but added that the angry episodes during those two-week stretches were quite severe.
She described Hill physically throwing her out of their home and pushing her against a car door during arguments. There were also accusations of him hurting her during disputes, as well as an incident where he left her on the roadside after a disagreement.
In defense, Hill’s legal team pointed to discrepancies between Vaccaro’s earlier deposition and her current statements, emphasizing the lack of physical evidence to support her claims. They acknowledged the seriousness of the accusations but argued that seriousness does not equate to automatic acceptance of them as truth.
Hill’s history regarding allegations of abuse against women is notable:
- December 2014–2015: While attending Oklahoma State, Hill was arrested following accusations from his pregnant girlfriend at the time, Crystal Espinal. He pleaded guilty to domestic assault and battery by strangulation, which resulted in a three-year probation. The case was later dismissed, but the guilty plea stands as part of his record.
- 2019: Hill and Espinal were investigated after an audio recording surfaced revealing discussions about their son’s broken arm, in which Hill made threatening comments. Prosecutors decided not to file charges as they could not identify any wrongdoing.
- 2024: UK influencer Sophie Hall filed a lawsuit against Hill, alleging he violently tackled her during a football drill at his Florida residence, resulting in a leg fracture. This civil case was settled on May 8, 2026, though details were not disclosed.
- 2024–2025: Vaccaro reported several incidents to police, including a 2024 allegation where Hill supposedly pressed a cigar into her face. In April 2025, police were called to their high-rise condo over a dispute in which Vaccaro’s mother claimed Hill threw a laptop and held their child dangerously close to a balcony. No charges were filed, although footage did show him holding the baby on the balcony railing.
The court session on Tuesday ended around 5 p.m., with neither Hill nor Vaccaro addressing the press afterward. The trial is set to continue on Wednesday.
