Pacers’ Concerns Over Halliburton’s Injury Ahead of Game 6
The Indiana Pacers are facing uncertainty as they approach Game 6 of the NBA Finals, having won the previous match at home. Their key player, Tyrese Halliburton, is reportedly dealing with tension in his right calf, raising questions about his availability. An MRI is necessary to assess the situation, with Halliburton’s status remaining a significant concern for the team.
This injury reportedly occurred during the Pacers’ Game 5 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday night. Halliburton’s performance was underwhelming that game; he managed to score only four points in 34 minutes, all from the free-throw line, along with seven rebounds and six assists.
The incident might have happened while he was driving to the basket in the first quarter. After some playing time, he went to the locker room but returned to the bench shortly afterward, with his calves wrapped up, which he later removed during the game. Initially diagnosed with calf tension, there are concerns that it could be more serious. Still, Halliburton expressed a strong desire to continue playing throughout the series.
“It wasn’t great tonight, but I’d love to play if I could walk,” he shared with reporters. “It’s the NBA Finals; I’ve worked all my life to be here, and I want to compete and help my teammates in every way I can.” His presence is crucial for the Pacers, especially during critical moments in games.
As they head into the next two games, which they must win to claim the championship, the momentum seems to lean towards the Thunder, following their 120-109 victory. If Halliburton can’t take the court, TJ McConnell is likely to fill in as point guard, providing some depth for the Pacers.
In the playoffs, Halliburton has averaged 17.9 points, 9.1 assists, and 5.8 rebounds, with a shooting percentage of 46.3%. His recent performance underscores his importance, particularly under pressure.
