Tyrod Taylor Prepares for Free Agency

SAN FRANCISCO — Tyrod Taylor is gearing up to enter free agency in March, and he mentioned recently that the Jets have shown interest in having him back for the 2026 season.

“I’ve been around long enough to know that discussions in January can differ from those in March,” Taylor noted on Thursday.

With 15 seasons in the NFL and the Jets being his seventh team, Taylor has certainly experienced quite a bit in his career.

While he expresses hope for a return, free agency has its unpredictable qualities.

“I believe everything [about coach Aaron Glenn]. I really think he’s the right individual to shift the culture positively,” Taylor shared. It’s a learning process now, and I feel like the players are responding well in the locker room. We have what it takes to turn things around.”

Taylor appeared on Super Bowl Radio Row to support Dairy Queen and the Super Bowl Halftime Feast. He’s also creatively promoting D’Andre Swift as the Bears’ backup, a play on “Taylor Swift,” which is quite clever.

He started four games last season, managing to throw five touchdowns and five interceptions while helping the Jets secure one of their three wins. Unfortunately, Taylor suffered a groin injury in his fourth start against the Dolphins, sidelining him for the remainder of the season.

“On a personal level, I think I made the most of the chances presented to me,” he said. “I feel I performed at a high standard when the opportunity arose. I’ll be a free agent in March, and honestly, I’m not entirely sure what comes next—whether with the Jets or elsewhere. I have full confidence in my ability to contribute at a high level, whether it’s playing or preparing as a coach.”

Interestingly, Taylor mentioned he was taken aback by the Jets’ decision to let go of offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand. However, he believes that Frank Reich is a solid choice for the role. “I have a lot of respect for Tanner,” Taylor remarked. “He’s recovering quickly and has had a bright future in the league. Sometimes things just don’t align. I think bringing in coach Frank Reich was a strong move. He’s had extensive success, and if he returns to the Jets, I’m eager to see what unfolds next.”
