Tyrone Taylor Boosts His Trade Value
Tyrone Taylor is certainly making a case for himself on the trade market. On Sunday, he launched a three-run homer against Dodgers pitcher Evan Phillips, continuing to impress since his return from the injured list late last month.
In the 18 games since his comeback, Taylor has achieved a remarkable 1.327 OPS, despite dealing with some tough conditions, including a sprained right hip flexor.
Interim manager Andy Green praised Taylor’s recent performances, noting, “He swings with conviction, swings aggressively, swings with the intent to do damage and doesn’t let a bad swing affect his next swing.” He added that Taylor’s increased playing time has been beneficial for the team’s performance.
The Mets are currently sitting at 44-62, even after a recent 8-3 victory. I mean, it seems quite likely that a player like the 32-year-old Taylor could be on the move. Interestingly, although his batting average over his career stands at .237, it seems he hasn’t changed his approach much since his injury.
“Nothing too crazy,” he commented when asked about his adjustments.
Amid discussions about possible trades, Taylor insists he’s focusing on the game rather than the trade deadline, aiming to stay present. Green echoed this sentiment, acknowledging that the roster may change soon but keeping the focus on winning games day by day.
Taylor’s home run against the Dodgers marked his fifth of the month, showcasing why he could be a desirable target for teams looking to make moves.
His strong fielding skills, coupled with a .292 batting average and 11 RBIs this season, certainly make him an attractive option. He was a key player for the Mets, who made it to the NLCS in 2024, and Sunday might have been one of his last performances with the team, which should be a point of interest for David Stearns.
