Mets Secure Victory Over Dodgers with Taylor’s Heroics

Freddy Peralta’s performance on Sunday might as well have summarized his underwhelming time with the Mets: brief and not particularly effective.

However, it was another player brought in from Milwaukee that truly made a difference during the game. That would be Tyrone Taylor, whose game-winning home run in the sixth inning helped turn the tide, leading the Mets to an 8-3 victory over the Dodgers at Citi Field.

Taylor, primarily known for his prowess against lefties, slammed a three-run homer off right-hander Evan Phillips, sparking the Mets’ comeback and overshadowing Peralta’s shaky outing.

In the seventh inning, the Mets continued to pad their lead, thanks to three runs from Marcus Semien, ensuring some insurance for the win.

Peralta’s future with the team seems uncertain as the Aug. 3 trade deadline approaches. Although he might get another start with the Mets next weekend, he was up against a formidable lineup.

Interestingly, despite his struggles, Peralta has been pitching better lately, leading one to wonder if the opponent truly matters for him anymore.

During his most recent outing, Peralta threw 93 pitches across four innings, allowing six hits, two walks, and three runs (one earned), along with three strikeouts. This marks the fourth time in his past five starts that he has failed to complete the game.

Such a performance isn’t exactly what you’d expect from an ace, especially since the Mets acquired Peralta last winter. With a 4.99 ERA, he’ll need to improve, especially as he heads into free agency.

On a brighter note, Peralta might still have a chance to pitch during playoff contention, as fans are hoping he can rediscover the form he had when he was with the Brewers.

The Mets, having gone 4-5 since the All-Star break, will face tough competition again with the Braves coming to town on Monday. It’s worth noting that the Mets finished the season 1-5 against the Dodgers.

After losing Juan Soto to a calf strain, the Mets’ lineup seemed to pick up some momentum, especially in the second game since his absence.

In the first inning, AJ Ewing kicked things off with a double, followed by a single from Francisco Lindor that put the Mets up 1-0.

Bo Bichette also singled in that same inning, but both Ewing and Lindor were left stranded.

Peralta encountered issues in the third inning, starting with a double from Eliezer Alfonso. He did manage to strike out Shohei Ohtani with a high 96 mph pitch, but then walked Andy Pages. This eventually led to an RBI double from Freddie Freeman, tying the game at 1-1, followed by Max Muncy’s grounder that gave the Dodgers a 2-1 lead.

A fielding error by first baseman Jared Young resulted in an unearned run for the Dodgers in the fourth inning—adding to Peralta’s woes as he failed to cover first base on a grounder by Kyle Tucker.

The Mets fell behind 3-1 due to Alfonzo’s RBI grounder.

But in the sixth inning, walks issued to Carson Benge and Luis Robert Jr. set the stage for Taylor’s eighth home run of the season, shifting the momentum back to the Mets. Ewing later walked and scored on a passed ball in the seventh, extending the lead to 5-3, followed by Semien’s impressive three-run homer, sealing the deal for the Mets.
