Golf really stirs up a mix of feelings, and viewers tuning into ESPN during the first round of the PGA Championship on Thursday in Charlotte, North Carolina, got a glimpse of that.
Tyrrell Hutton, who managed to shoot an impressive 3-under 68 and was trailing leader Jonattan Vegas, found himself on the tee at the 17th hole of the Quazul Hollow Club.
His shot didn’t land as close to the pin as he’d hoped, and in the heat of the moment, he let an expletive slip, which was caught on the microphone before the network could cut the feed.
Scott Van Pelt, the ESPN broadcaster, couldn’t hide his surprise after hearing Hutton’s outburst.
“The Worst F-King…” Hutton seemed to express as he walked away from the tee.
As the broadcast shifted to hole 18, Van Pelt took over the commentary.
Though visibly taken aback by the foul language, he managed to smoothly transition with a brief pause, saying, “Well…until 18.”
This was just one notable moment in what turned out to be an exciting day at the PGA Championship.
In another highlight, Eric Cole made a remarkable hole-in-one on the fourth hole, marking the first of his professional career.
