Tyson Fury announces retirement from boxing after second loss

Tyson Fury has taken off his gloves again.

The former heavyweight champion announced on Monday that he is retiring from boxing at the age of 36, less than a month after the “Gypsy King” suffered his second consecutive loss to Oleksandr Usyk.

“It was so much fun, I loved every minute of it. That's it. Dick Turpin was wearing a mask. God bless you all and I'll see you on the other side.” .”

Fury announced he would retire after defeating Dillian Whyte in April 2022, but was set to face Derek Chisora eight months later.

He also announced his retirement on social media in 2013 and 2017, but it didn't last long.

Fury is one of the best boxers in the world and one of the sport's most high-profile boxers for the past decade, ending Wladimir Klitschko's reign at the top of the heavyweight division in 2015 and reaching a new stratosphere. Reached.

The rematch was scrapped after Fury tested positive for the banned drug nandrolone and later for cocaine.

Fury continued his memorable trilogy with Deontay Wilder, starting with a draw in 2018 that marked the first winless bout in each fighter's career.

The Brit suffered his first loss to Wilder in a rematch in 2020 and defeated him again in 2021.

Fury suffered his first career loss by split decision to Usyk in May, then lost by unanimous decision in a rematch in December.

Fury and compatriot Anthony Joshua have never fought and there was talk of a potential megafight, but talks appear to have stalled.

It's unclear why Fury mentioned Turpin, a famous British thief from the 1700s, but it could be an allusion to him being robbed by the referee in his last fight against Usyk, or being disrespected in the negotiations for the fight against Joshua. Some people speculate that there is.
