Tyson Fury’s Retirement May Be Short-Lived
It seems that Tyson Fury’s retirement from boxing might not stick. The former heavyweight champion has announced a potential return, possibly for a trilogy match in 2026, as reported by Athletics.
At 36, Fury previously indicated that his boxing career was over after losing to Oleksandr Usyk for the second time. Before that, he had declared his retirement in 2022.
There’s some chatter that the next fight could be held at Wembley Stadium on April 18, though he noted that discussions are ongoing.
Fury’s battles with Usyk have been notable; he won a unanimous decision in December, but then lost by split decision in May 2024. After his latest defeat, he expressed disappointment, saying, “I think we won that fight,” adding that although he felt Usyk had won some rounds, he believed he’d taken the majority.
Following the defeat in December, Fury shared a video on Instagram where he announced his retirement, concluding with a record of 32 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw, the latter against Deontay Wilder in 2018.
In a casual tone, he stated, “Hello everyone, I’ll make this short and sweet. I would like to announce my retirement from boxing. It was an explosion. I loved it every minute.”
Revered as the “Gypsy King,” Fury first became the heavyweight champion in 2015 after defeating Vladimir Klitschko, and he held his position until the recent loss against Usyk.
As for Usyk, he’s set to fight Daniel Dubois next, following a successful bout earlier in 2023.
