Trump’s Upcoming U.N. Address: Insights from Ambassador Waltz
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, shared some insights with Breitbart News about President Donald Trump’s upcoming address to the U.N. General Assembly. He indicated that the focus will be on themes like “sovereignty” and “peace deals.”
Trump is slated to speak in New York City on Tuesday, followed by discussions with global leaders, as reported by Scripps News. While Waltz provided a brief overview of the president’s objectives for the U.N. visit in that report, he elaborated further during an interview on the Breitbart News Saturday radio show hosted by Matthew Boyle.
Waltz acknowledged a common sentiment, saying, “I know a lot of your listeners are saying, ‘Why do we even bother with this crazy place?’” referring to the U.N. “Believe me, I understand. But the reality is, if we hadn’t established it, someone else would have. We can’t have 192 countries setting the world’s rules without the U.S. and President Trump’s guidance.”
As he highlighted the meetings scheduled from September 22 to 28, Waltz emphasized that this is a unique opportunity where over 150 leaders, including prime ministers, presidents, and CEOs, gather to discuss pressing issues. “You need at least one venue where everyone can engage,” he added.
In response to a question about what Trump would address, Waltz noted that listeners can expect a reiteration of his longstanding themes focused on sovereignty and a pushback against globalist policies. He mentioned the deals crafted by Trump in the past year—eight so far—with more on the horizon.
Waltz also pointed out Trump’s firm stance against allowing the Iranian regime to possess nuclear weapons. Last month, U.S. Ambassador to NATO, Matt Whitaker, remarked that the primary aim regarding Iran is to secure a deal ensuring they never acquire nuclear arms. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin previously stated that the situation with Iran is dire, suggesting they were close to developing nuclear capabilities due to current policies.
The ambassador reiterated that Trump remains focused on preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, calling this upcoming diplomatic push crucial.
Additionally, Waltz mentioned that Trump is committed to ending what he described as “the largest land war in Europe,” a reference to the conflict in Ukraine that began under Joe Biden’s tenure. He indicated that there will also be discussions around broader issues, such as artificial intelligence (AI) and its implications for government policy.
“You’re going to see discussions about other important topics that may not be front-page news but are vital, like undersea cables in international waters that carry 90 percent of global data,” he explained.
Waltz articulated the importance of U.S. leadership on the international stage, emphasizing that “we need to actively engage and advocate for American industry, our values, and the American populace.” He noted a common issue over past administrations: “We have largely been absent from significant international discussions.” He reassured that the current administration is indeed involved, leading efforts effectively.
Furthermore, he touched briefly on Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s upcoming discussions at the U.N. concerning changes in international trade routes brought on by decreasing Arctic Sea ice, which could allow shipping to avoid key global chokepoints.
