U.S. military forces launched strikes on Iran after the nation violated a recently established ceasefire in the Strait of Hormuz.
On Friday, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the retaliatory actions against Iranian assets, triggered by a series of drone assaults on a commercial vessel the previous day. American aircraft targeted Iranian missile and drone storage facilities, as well as coastal radar positions.
The airstrikes were reported near the Iranian port of Sirik soon after the announcement. This port, also known as Bandar Sirik, is strategically important and serves as a naval base for the IRGC along Iran’s southern coastline, right by the Strait.
President Donald Trump expressed his frustration with Tehran regarding the attacks, labeling them a “foolish violation” of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed on June 17.
The President noted that U.S. defense systems successfully intercepted three drones, though one managed to hit the upper deck of the Singapore-flagged cargo ship, the M/V Ever Lovely. The damaged vessel was still reported safe and capable of continuing its journey.
Vice President JD Vance took to social media to declare that “violence will be met with violence.”
CENTCOM reiterated that despite these heightened tensions, U.S. forces remain committed to ensuring safe passage for commercial vessels navigating the strait.
