Following the U.S. military’s recent strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities, reactions have poured in from both sides of the political spectrum. A notable Republican and at least one prominent Democrat have expressed their approval of President Donald Trump’s decision.
Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican, shared his thoughts on social media, stating, “Good. This was the right call. The administration deserves it. Well done, President @Realdonaldtrump.” Similarly, Democratic Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania agreed, mentioning, “This was the right move by @potus, as I’ve kept saying for a long time. Iran is one of the world’s leading terrorist sponsors and cannot have nuclear capabilities.”
Support for the Military Action
Representative Brandon Gill from Texas emphasized the need to prevent adversaries from acquiring nuclear weapons, suggesting that “peace by force” is essential. Meanwhile, former Florida Representative Matt Gaetz characterized Trump as a “peacemaker,” hinting at a strategic approach similar to the strike on Iranian military leader Qassem Soleimani.
House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mike Rogers also backed the president’s actions, arguing that failing to counter Iran’s nuclear ambitions would be a grave mistake. Senator Tom Cotton from Arkansas reiterated this sentiment, reminding the public that Iran has posed a long-term threat to U.S. security.
Political Dynamics and the Messaging
Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming labeled the decision “right,” asserting that Iran represents a significant threat due to its nuclear pursuits. House Speaker Mike Johnson highlighted that the military operations should serve as a clear message to Iran about the U.S. stance against its nuclear endeavors.
Johnson further noted that President Trump had extended opportunities for negotiation with Iran, but those offers were rejected. He framed the military action as an effort to prevent the world’s major state sponsor of terrorism from acquiring the most dangerous weapon known to humanity.
Opposing Views on the Strike
Not everyone is in agreement, however. Senator Thomas Massey voiced concerns that the attack lacked constitutional backing, as it was initiated without congressional authorization. California Representative Ro Khanna echoed this, emphasizing the need for an upcoming vote on war powers related to the situation.
