Reports indicate that U.S. Olympic sprinter Fred Carly has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend.
Police in Dania Beach, Florida responded after reports claimed Carly attacked fellow Olympian and former partner, Aleisha Johnson.
According to the police report, Johnson was at a fitness appointment when Carly showed up, threatening, “I’m going to f*** everyone here.”
The report further details that Carly struck Johnson in the face, causing her nose to bleed.
Carly was arrested and charged with a first-degree misdemeanor for battery.
This incident led to the Grand Slam track event having to remove Carly from participation, though officials have not elaborated on his status post-arrest.
“It’s unfortunate, but I have faith in Mr. Carly’s character and strength, supported by many around the world,” stated Carly’s lawyer Richard Cooper. “We urge fans and the public to be patient as law enforcement conducts their investigation and as we await further action from the Broward County State Attorney’s Office.”
This is not Carly’s first brush with the law.
Earlier this year, he was involved in a struggle with police in Miami Beach, which was captured on video.
Carly faced charges then as well, pleading not guilty.
In a previous incident in 2024, he was accused of strangling his wife and allegedly taking her phone, also pleading not guilty to those charges.
Carly earned a bronze medal in the 100m race at the 2024 Paris Olympics and a silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
