US Open Preview:
This year marks Pinehurst No. 2 High School’s fourth U.S. Open and the field this week is impressive.
Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 ranked player in the world, won his fifth tournament victory of 2024, winning the Memorial Tournament at Jack’s Place for his first victory since April.
Meanwhile, defending champion Wyndham Clark hasn’t been in good form since the start of the season, missing the cut at the Memorial and also missing the cut at the first two majors.
But many other PGA Tour players, including Collin Morikawa, Ludvig Aaberg and Viktor Hovland, are also making progress.
Of the 156 players in the field, LIV Golf has 12 players, three fewer than last year’s U.S. Open, three of whom made the cut and 14 were eliminated, including Joaquin Niemann.
Bryson DeChambeau comes into this major after finishing runner-up to Xander Schauffele at the PGA Championship. He has a shot at winning his second U.S. Open trophy. The second hole at Pinehurst suits his game well and his momentum is heading in the right direction.
The third major tournament of the year is sure to bring some excitement as Pinehurst No. 2 Golf Club returns to full swing and some of the best names in golf compete.
