A largely Democratic-led coalition of US states on Friday will see a Trump administration panel led by billionaire Elon Musk access to the government system used to process trillion dollar payments. I filed a lawsuit to stop it.
The 19 states led by Democrat Attorney General Letia James, the Democrat, said that Musk's government efficiency is legal authority to access the US Treasury system, which includes personal information about millions of Americans. He claims that it is not.
In a lawsuit in Manhattan federal court, Musk and his team could disrupt federal funding for health clinics, kindergartens, climate initiatives and other programs, Republican President Donald Trump used information to use him It says it can promote the political agenda.
Access to Doge's system “substantial cybersecurity risks at risk to the state and its residents,” the Attorney General said.
Trump represented Musk and led Doge to identify government fraud and waste. Musk's efforts are wary of Democrats and advocacy groups who say he is exaggerating his authority by trying to dismantle key programs in government programs and federal workers' heads in fires.
The lawsuit names Trump and the Treasury Department as defendants. James was also part of the California Attorney General, Illinois, Massachusetts, Washington and New Jersey, among other states.
A federal judge on Thursday would restrict access to two “special government officials” in another lawsuit by the union that claims mask teams are violating privacy laws by accessing payment systems. He ordered the Treasury Department and said their access must be read-only.
Also, lawsuits have been filed to help Doge block access to data between the U.S. Department of Labor and Education.
Trump appointee Treasury Secretary Scott Becent said this week that the department's payment system was not touched by musk and that decisions to stop payments will be made by other agencies.
In Friday's lawsuit, New York and other states said they would “privacy impact assessments” before using technology that would collect or disseminate information by granting Doge access to payment systems and illegally steal Congressional authority. it alleges it violates federal laws requiring agencies to do so.
The state also accused Trump of violating his constitutional obligation to faithfully implement federal law, among other claims.
The lawsuit seeks a temporary restraining order that prohibits DOGE from accessing financial systems where further cases are pending.
