UConn a historic favorite before Final Four

Bookmakers’ confidence in the UConn Huskies is high enough to make it to the Final Four.

Dan Hurley’s club, two wins away from a second consecutive national championship, entered rare territory and scored as a -190 favorite to win at BetMGM Sportsbook on April 8th.

The only team in the tournament since 2000 that had better odds than the Huskies at this point were the 2021 Gonzaga Bulldogs, who were -200 out of the Final Four before losing to the Baylor Bears in the National Championship Game. It was just that. According to sports odds history.

Since 1984, only seven teams have had odds above -190, according to SOH.

When the tournament was released in mid-March, UConn opened as the +425 favorite to win and did not disappoint.

The reigning champions were dominant through four games, winning each tournament by at least 17 points, including a 25-point victory over third-place Illinois in the Elite 8.

The Huskies are currently the favorites (DraftKings Sportsbook) by a whopping 12 points over the fourth-place Alabama Crimson Tide.

If UConn finishes with that number, it will be tied as the third-biggest Final Four favorite in the last 50 years. According to Action Network.

This season’s dominant run comes on the heels of one of the most improbable national championship titles in recent college basketball history.

UConn enters the 2023 tournament at +1800 with no wins, making it the eighth-highest bid to win a national championship since 1975.

The Huskies are seeking to become the first team to win back-to-back national titles since the Florida Gators won in 2006-07, and the third team in the past 50 years.

The Purdue Boilermakers, at +210 to win the title, are considered the biggest competition for the Huskies by BetMGM’s oddsmakers, followed by the North Carolina State Wolfpack (+1600) and Alabama (+1800). There is.
