Jon Jones has found himself in hot water with recent allegations surrounding drug testers.
The UFC’s No. 3 pound-for-pound fighter was reportedly indicted on two misdemeanor charges on Monday. Damon Martin of MMA Fighting.
The charges stem from a drug tester attempting to take samples from Jones’ home on March 30.
According to reports, When the incident occurredInspector Crystal Martinez claimed Jones confiscated her mobile phone and threatened to attack her but she eventually agreed to urinate on him.
Martinez also suggested Jones may have been drinking at the time of the incident.
Martin added that if convicted of both charges, Jones could face less than a year in jail and a $1,500 fine.
Jones has had a number of issues with drug testing in the past.
The heavyweight champion was suspended twice for using banned substances, in 2016 and 2017.
Jones, 36, has had some nasty run-ins with police throughout his illustrious career.
In September 2021, Jones was arrested following an alleged domestic violence incident with his fiancée after which he attempted to fight with officers.
Prior to this, in March 2020, Jones pleaded guilty to DUI and was charged with possession of an open container, driving without insurance and negligent use of a firearm, although the last three charges were eventually dropped.
Jones’ other legal troubles include an assault charge at a strip club in 2019, a hit-and-run charge in 2015 and a DUI charge in 2012.
Jones has not competed since March 2023 while recovering from a torn pectoral tendon, but was scheduled to face Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 in October 2023 at Madison Square Garden.
Even during Jones’ extended absence, UFC president Dana White has continued to praise him, calling him the sport’s pound-for-pound No. 1 fighter for as long as he’s on the fighter roster.
Replacing Jones, current interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall will defend the belt against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304 on July 27.
Jones’ next opponent, when he will return, is still unknown but possible opponents include Aspinall or current light heavyweight champion and No. 2 pound-for-pound world champion Alex Pereira.
