UFL player Jean Delance ejected for spitting on opponent

Things got a little heated in the UFL season opener between the DC Defenders and the San Antonio Bramas.

Defenders forward Jan Delance was ejected from the game in the fourth quarter for spitting on a Brahmas player while DC was driving to try to close the lead.

Delance, who played college ball at Flordia University, was given a flagrant personal foul and ejected from the game after spitting on Brahmas linebacker Delonte Scott, but the referee said no. he told the fans in attendance.

Scott appeared to show impressive restraint as he yelled at D.C. quarterback Jordan Ta’amu to control Delance.

“Get the guy,” Scott, who was holding the microphone, told Ta’amu. “Hey, he spits on me again and it’s over. He spits on me again and it’s over.”

Ta’amu then asked, “What about after the play?”

“Yes. Get my son,” Scott replied flatly.

A clip online showed Delance being removed from the field by the Defenders’ coach, and a frustrated Delance appearing to bite someone in his jaw.

At this moment, it looked like DC had turned things around and the tide of the game seemed to have changed.

Delance’s ejection came after the Defenders appeared to score a touchdown to cut San Antonio’s lead to 20-18, but the Brahms dispute a false start on Delance’s encore that nullified the scoring play. It was very successful.

During the drive, Ta’amu also left the game due to injury concerns, but upon his return he threw an interception to Darius Phillips, who returned the ball 80 yards.

San Antonio clinched the victory with a touchdown run from quarterback Chase Garbers, and the Brahmas ended up winning 27-12.

The game was part of a four-game opening weekend for the new UFL, which combines the XFL and USFL into one league.

The newly formed Spring Football League has eight teams, with locations in Memphis, Birmingham, Memphis, Michigan, D.C., Arlington, San Antonio and St. Louis.
