Prince Harry is facing a setback in his ongoing legal battle, as the British government has removed the publicly funded security that he had, following his and Meghan Markle’s decision to step back from royal duties.

In a unanimous ruling, the UK Court of Appeals found that Harry was not treated unfairly, affirming the government’s choice to assess security arrangements based on individual circumstances each time he visits the UK.

This decision may end up costing the Duke of Sussex significantly, as he will be liable for both the government’s legal costs and his own. It’s unclear if he plans to appeal this ruling.

“The UK is my home,” Harry stated during a hearing in December 2023.

“The UK is at the heart of my children’s heritage, and they need to feel safe here, just as they do in America,” he added, emphasizing the importance of safety during visits to the UK.

Harry recently made a rare appearance at a two-day hearing where his legal team argued that his life is at great risk and emphasized that he has been targeted.

After stepping down from royal duties in 2020, Harry and Meghan moved to Montecito, California, claiming they felt unsupported by Buckingham Palace.

“It’s frustrating to see a process that is so fundamentally different for others,” remarked Harry’s lawyer, Shaheed Fatima. “His situation underscores the significance of this entire charter for him and his family.”

His lawyer also expressed concerns that the family feels unprotected. In response, a representative from the UK government argued that Prince Harry’s approach lacked merit and had failed in lower courts.

“There seems to be a consistent oversight of crucial evidence, which casts a long shadow over their argument,” said Attorney James Eady.

Harry’s lawyers asserted that he and Meghan felt compelled to step away from full-time royal roles but wished to support the late Queen as privately funded members of the royal family.

According to reports, the lawsuit has soured Harry’s relationship with his father. He remarked that the legal processes had confirmed his deepest fears—something he found disheartening.
