UK-France ‘coalition of the willing’ brings together military leaders to devise plan for Ukraine

The British proponent-led “Willing's Union” brings together senior military officers around the world to devise plans for Ukrainian peacekeeping forces.

France and the UK are the only coalitions that have said they are willing to send troops, but Canada, Australia, Finland and other European countries are said to be open to involvement. Associated Press (AP). However, British Prime Minister Kiel Starmer said this week that the coalition is in the “operational phase.”

As of now, the Associated Press said the authorities will reach between 10,000 and 30,000.

Trump holds “very good” call with Zelenskyy following his deal with Putin

Macron also said he spoke to Ukrainian President Voldimie Zelensky, who said the French leader had “showed courage” by accepting the US deal.

“We must now move forward with all our partners to present a concrete peace plan. A peace plan that provides strong security assurances to Ukraine. A peace plan that guarantees lasting peace in Ukraine and Europe. A peace plan that prevents Russia from attacking again,” Macron wrote in a post on X.

According to the Associated Press, Russia rejected the concept of military forces from Ukraine-based NATO countries as part of the deal.

During the war, the Kremlin made clear its stance to join NATO against Ukraine. Earlier this week, Russian deputy minister Alexander Gurshko repeated this stance in a Russian paper. Reuters reported that Grushko said the Kremlin had requested a “iron chain” guarantee that Ukraine is not in NATO.

Trump, who has promised to end the three-year war, also spoke with Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin this week. In a post about the Truth Society, Trump said his call with Zelensky was “very good,” adding that the two discussed the call with Putin.

“Many of the discussion is based on yesterday's call with President Putin, to coordinate both Russia and Ukraine in terms of demand and needs.” Trump wrote.

White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt detailed Trump and Putin's statement in a statement. She said the two agreed that the war “must end in enduring peace.” Trump and Putin also appear to have discussed the need to improve relations between the US and Russia.
