RAF Jets Deployed Amid Iran-Israel Conflict
British Prime Minister Zaire Starmer is taking steps to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East by sending additional Royal Air Force (RAF) jets to the region due to the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel.
The RAF has dispatched Typhoon fighter jets along with air refueling aircraft, which are intended for “emergency response across the region.”
According to British officials, while there is a desire to stabilize the situation, they haven’t ruled out using RAF support to assist Israel, similar to previous instances in April and October of last year.
“We’ve already repositioned assets, including the jets, for emergency support throughout the region,” Starmer stated.
“Our persistent message is about de-escalation, so everything we’re doing and discussing revolves around that goal.”
The Prime Minister expressed that Britain holds “long-standing concerns” regarding a potential Islamic regime in Iran acquiring nuclear weapons, emphasizing Israel’s importance in Britain’s self-defense strategy.
Starmer recounted a productive conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during which they discussed crucial matters surrounding Israel’s security.
In response, Tehran has issued threats to Western nations, including France, the US, and the UK, warning that military support for Israel could make these countries targets in the current conflict.
At the same time, the UK Foreign Ministry has advised its citizens to avoid traveling to Israel due to ongoing missile attacks from Iran. Earlier travel warnings concerning Gaza, the Golan Heights, and the West Bank have now been extended to other areas of Israel.
As of Friday, at least 15 people have reportedly died from Iranian strikes, with 385 individuals hospitalized since Saturday, according to Israel’s Ministry of Health. Tehran, meanwhile, claims dozens have died but has not provided specific casualty figures.
