Kiev and Denmark Forge New Arms Production Agreement

On Friday, Kiev finalized a significant agreement with Denmark, enabling Ukrainian firms to collaborate in arms production on Danish territory.

This marks the first instance of Ukraine establishing a military production site abroad, primarily to counter the increasing Russian offensives amidst the ongoing conflict with Vladimir Putin’s Russia.

Denmark has committed $5 million to this initiative, which aims to bolster Ukrainian defense startups, as shared by the Minister of Strategic Industry in a Facebook post after the signing event in Copenhagen.

The support from allied arms manufacturers is anticipated to bolster Ukraine’s defensive capabilities and enhance its supply chain, especially after more than three years of depending on foreign military assistance.

This landmark agreement arises amidst worries over dwindling stockpiles, particularly since the US halted weapons shipments to Ukraine earlier this week.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky characterized the deal as a pivotal decision, referring to it as “the first agreement on Ukrainian arms production in Europe.” He noted the significance of co-production with Denmark in terms of both security and investment.

Moreover, this deal is seen as a response to heightened Russian aerial attacks, which have intensified with the ongoing tensions surrounding Ukraine’s defense systems, particularly affecting various cities as they face missile and drone assaults this week.

The partnership with Denmark is part of a broader strategy by Kyiv to internationalize its arms production efforts.

Earlier this week, Zelensky also struck another major agreement involving collaboration between Ukrainian and American drone companies.

In related developments, Swiftbeat, a company led by former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, plans to enhance drone production in 2026, aiming to supply thousands of drones to Ukraine by 2025, according to a recent announcement by Zelensky.

He emphasized the need for both long-range weapon production and drone interceptors to protect civilians, underlining the importance of strengthening joint efforts with partners. During a recent call, Zelensky also discussed defense production and investments with President Trump, who described the conversation as positive. Zelensky agreed on the importance of enhancing Ukraine’s air defense capabilities.
