Ukraine Launches Major Drone Strike on Moscow, Halting Air Traffic

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — A major drone attack shook Moscow and its suburbs overnight into Sunday, injuring a woman and temporarily halting traffic at some of Russia's busiest airports, while A large night wave of Russian-made drones targeted Ukraine, officials reported.

This comes as Russian President Vladimir Putin signed an agreement with North Korea on Saturday night, obliging both countries to provide immediate military assistance by “all means” if either is attacked. It was done after. The deal represents the strongest link between Moscow and North Korea since the end of the Cold War.

Earlier this week, Ukraine reported that its military had engaged North Korean forces for the first time. U.S. officials previously confirmed they were sending at least 3,000 North Korean troops to Russia, a move that could further destabilize the Asia-Pacific region and escalate Russia's war with Ukraine. There is growing concern that there is.

Both Russia and Kiev have suffered casualties since the start of the all-out war, despite regular reports that Russian forces have suffered huge losses in “human sea” attacks aimed at exhausting Ukraine's defenses. The numbers have been carefully hidden.

But Tony Radakin, Britain's chief of defense staff, told the BBC that October was the worst month for Russian troops in terms of casualties since the country's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. He said Russian troops suffered an average of 1,500 deaths. And wounded “every day”, the total losses in the war amounted to 700,000 people.

Ordinary Russians were paying an “extraordinary price” in the war, according to Radakin, even as Russia's brutal months-long offensive in Ukraine's industrial east continues to reap profits. He did not say how British authorities calculated the number of Russian casualties.

“There is no question that Russia is making tactical and territorial gains that are putting pressure on Ukraine,” he said, but that the losses were for “a small portion of land.” He stated that Russia's increasing defense and security spending was increasing the burden. About the country.

Radakin said Ukraine's Western powers are not willing to defend Russia's invasion, even as allies of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump have suggested they may need to cede territory in Kiev to seek peace. He insisted that Ukraine should be supported “for as long as necessary” to defeat it.

On Sunday, the Kremlin's official spokesperson expressed cautious optimism about Trump's next term as president, saying, “At least he will talk about peace…and not about conflict.”

“The signals are positive. President Trump said during his campaign that he sees everything through transactions and can conclude deals that bring peace to everyone,” Dmitry Peskov told reporters at a briefing. He told the group.

“He does not talk about the desire to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia, and this favorably distinguishes him from the current (US) administration,” Peskov said.

Meanwhile, Russia's Ministry of Defense announced that a total of 70 drones were shot down over Russian territory overnight, 34 of which were shot down over the outskirts of Moscow. Russian aviation authorities announced the temporary suspension of flights at major international airports, including Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo.

A woman in her 50s suffered burns to her face, neck and hands after a drone started a fire in a village southeast of Moscow, local governor Andrei Vorobyov reported.

Sobyanin said no one was injured in Moscow itself, but a Russian channel on the messaging app Telegram reported sightings of drone fragments setting fire to houses in the suburbs.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched a “record” 145 drones into Ukrainian territory overnight, 62 of which were shot down. An additional 67 aircraft were “lost,” the Air Force said, likely referring to electronic jamming that caused the drones to veer off course.

Local governor Ole Kiper reported that a Russian drone struck a residential area in the port of Odesa in southern Ukraine, injuring at least one person.
