Regarding national security and defense, rare earth minerals are used in missile guidance systems, radar, jet engines and communication systems. In addition to the production of smartphones, computers, electric vehicles batteries, wind turbines and solar panels, it is also important for producing advanced military hardware such as F-35 fighter jets and nuclear submarines.
“The agreement clearly shows Russia that the Trump administration is committed to a peace process centered around Ukraine, where it has long been free, sovereign and prosperous,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent said in a press release.
“President Trump envisioned this partnership between the American people and the Ukrainian people to demonstrate both sides' commitment to Ukraine's lasting peace and prosperity.
The agreement introduced the creation of a joint US Ukraine Fund entitled “US-Crain Reconstruction Investment Fund.” However, the US is given priority access to resources – Reuters Report.
“On behalf of the Ukrainian government, I have signed an agreement with the US on the establishment of the Ukrainian Reconstruction Investment Fund. Together with the US, we are creating a fund that attracts global investment in our country.”
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also issued an update on a social media video Wednesday, saying: “This partnership will enable the United States to unlock Ukrainian growth assets, mobilize Ukrainian standards of talent, capital and governance, improve Ukraine's investment environment and accelerate Ukraine's economic recovery.”
The mineral trade was originally to be signed in February when Ukrainian President Voldy Mirzelensky visited the White House. But it ended with a scream. As a result, no transactions were made.
Nevertheless, Zelensky apologised for the incident and resumed talks with the United States to ensure the end of a three-year war with Russia.
Meanwhile, some Ukrainians are opposed to the mineral trade with the United States. Reuters Report.
Ironically, some countries have argued that President Donald Trump and the United States “not just want to give it,” despite the previous Biden administration providing aid to Ukraine via US taxes.
