The North Atlantic Treaty Organization is preparing to help Ukraine join a military alliance and has called on allies to send more aid to defend Ukraine from Russia.

At a press conference in Brussels on Friday, the outgoing secretary-general said he wanted Ukraine to join the alliance and called for more military assistance to the country.
Ukraine currently receives 99 percent of its military aid from NATO allies.
“All of the work we do together will leave Ukraine stronger, more interoperable and more ready to join our Alliance,” NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said.
Member states would need to reach an agreement to allow Ukraine into the bloc, but both Germany and the United States have refused to do so until the conflict with Russia is over.
