Ukrainian air defense systems were up and running to repel air attacks on the Russian capital. “Air defense systems have been activated on the approaches to Kiev,” the Ukrainian military said on Telegram. “Please remain in your shelters until the air raid alert is lifted.”
At least three people were killed by Russian missile and artillery fire in northeastern and southern Ukraine on Saturday.Law enforcement officials said the missile attack took place at around 3:15 a.m. on the town of Barbinkove in the Izhium district, the prosecutor’s office in the northeastern Kharkiv region said in a statement. The statement said two men, aged 48 and 69, were killed and about 50 buildings were damaged in the attack, which they said was likely the result of three Russian Iskander missiles. Another attack hit an agricultural facility in the village of Oleksiyivka, but no casualties were reported.
Another shelling late Saturday killed a 44-year-old man in the city of Nikopol. According to national police, the incident occurred in southern Ukraine.
The death toll from Friday’s Russian attack on a playground in Mykolaiv rose to four.The southern city’s mayor, Oleksandr Senkevich, posted on Telegram that 24 people were injured, including a child.
